Austin ALA Chapter Holiday Party at Houlihan’s
December 5, 2006
Photos of our event
Our 70’s theme holiday party was a delight. The Houlihan staff kept the yummy hors d’oeuvres coming and Bakerman’s Bakery provided us with treats and a superb cake in honor of ALA’s 35th anniversary.
Adding the “music of the 70’s” spin to our CD gift exchange added some zing to the event as it brought back many memories for our seasoned members and created new ones for our younger members. Josh left the party with his ELO CD, but I’ll bet he ordered his very own Carole King - Tapestry CD from Amazon.com as soon as he got home. Wally walked away with his coveted CD of the Partridge Family and the Budweiser Frogs retired with Michal Bagley . . . . or did they?????
Factoids from 1971 were wonderful now we all know that the minimum wage in 1971 was $1.60, gasoline cost $.36 cents a gallon and that the Margarita was invented in Dallas in that famous year.
The evening was not without its minor mishaps. One adorable waiter (who was born in 1986) managed to spill a glass of red wine on one former Chapter President. Later, he asked two members if he could get them anything one ordered a Pinot Grigio and the other asked for a “Cab” short for Cabernet. He proudly returned to their table with only one glass on his tray. He set the Pinot down on the table in front of the first member and he told the second, “Your taxi is waiting outside.”
If you missed this event, you missed a great one.
