Each year our Chapter offers sponsorship opportunities that cover a full calendar year. These opportunities are offered in the form of packages at varying price ranges. Packages will include items like: attendance at monthly lunches, attendance at social events, newsletter advertising, website listing, access to membership list, exhibit space at our Annual Legal Expo. Out of fairness to all interested companies, both new and existing business partners, the annual packages are the only opportunities to support each year. An email is sent in late October or early November announcing that registration is open and each package is available on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to be included on the list to receive annual sponsorship information please email Amanda Koplos, Business Partner Relations Committee Chair at: email@example.com.
In 2008 we noticed that our business partner relationships were not efficient and were not being utilized to their full potential. First, our major fund collection was happening in August but most of our Chapter’s expenditures and financial commitments occur from March through July. So, basically, we were spending money before we made it each year. At the same time our committees were not working as a cohesive unit in communicating available opportunities to our business partners. It wasn’t fair and was not beneficial to all parties. After examining how other ALA Chapters across the country operate, we voted to go to Annual Sponsorship packages. Now each year we plan ahead and list out all of the functions for the year. We then have packages with commitments that are organized and are easily communicated among all of the Board Members.
Unfortunately, no. Sponsorships of all of our events are already built into the annual packages. If you are interested in supporting the Chapter and the sale of the packages has already passed for the year, you should sign up to receive notification when the next year’s registration is open. To sign up please email Amanda Koplos, Business Partner Relations Committee Chair at: firstname.lastname@example.org.

Our Chapter has approximately 90 members and almost all of them are considered Regular Members. Regular Members are full-time legal administrators or support managers employed in a private law firm, legal service clinic, corporate legal department, university legal department, governmental legal agency, court system, charitable legal agency or some other organization engaged primarily in the practice of law. Our Chapter members represent approximately 75 law firms with offices in the Austin area. The firms range from small (1-10 attorneys) to large (100+ attorneys). Some firms are based solely in Austin and others have offices in other parts of the country. 95% of our membership reports that they have at least some influence on buying decisions when determining which business partners to use.
Unfortunately, no. Because we are a not-for-profit group whose membership is primarily in one industry we fall under strict anti-trust guidelines. At the heart of these guidelines is to make sure that we aren’t showing favoritism to companies and that we aren’t endorsing one company over another. You are free to promote your sponsorship of our Chapter but please make sure it refers to the year(s) you have sponsored and does not give the appearance that you are a preferred sponsor. For example you could say: “Austin ALA 2011 Bronze Business Partner.”
Historically the Legal Expo has been held on a Thursday in mid-August. The date is determined each year by a number of factors including: hotel pricing and availability, the scheduled dates of other ALA events and the schedules of our committee members. Business Partners are notified of the date as soon as a contract is signed each year.
We usually get about 40% of our regular members attending the Expo. Many members bring other representatives to their firms as well. Overall you can expect 50-60 attendees. Don’t forget though, you also have potential customers in the other exhibitors. For example, an IT service provider can meet with a catering company, an office supplies company, or a hotel. We usually have 35-40 exhibitors at the show.
